My Agender is a book of personal stories regarding gender edited by SJ Tipping.

The original My Agender website is on blogger.com, but they needed a way to sell the book online that was simpler to manage than using the Paypal interface.

What did we do?

The original My Agender website is on blogger.com, but they needed a way to sell the book online that was simpler to manage than using the Paypal interface.

What did we do?

- acted as advisor when the domain name purchase went wrong!

- hosted the website for a year (with the option to renew if they want)

- installed and configured WordPress for the site

- provided a one-on-one skype chat session to teach them how to use the site

- set-up the WP e-Commerce software on the site

- imported all the content from the original site

Still to do!

- import all the images from blogger

- design banner images for the site

- help with product pages

- integrate the site with Facebook and Twitter social networking sites

- provide full manual on the website on how to update and make changes

What did we do?

- examined the system and cleaned-up the problems they were experiencing

- set-up a new way of presenting information on pages

- set-up the Wp e-commerce system to handle merchandise sales

- set-up a music-player for their homepage and other pages

- reconfigured the Music page so it was easier to navigate

- created lyrics pages so song lyrics were easier to read and more professional in presentation

- wrote a full user guide for them to refer to when adding and modifying content on the site.

- graphic design of 12 header images which rotate when the page is refreshed

- researched and found the best sliding panels available for their site, which are used for advertising and providing information quickly and easily

- linked the site up with Facebook and Twitter to reach even more potential visitors

- Helped set-up a forum for them, using the PHPBB forum software

- designed flyers for their events

Unfortunately, they did not have the originals of these logos, nor any files saved electronically. What they did have was colour postcards which included the logos and other elements they needed.

We scanned the postcards into our computers at 600dpi to make them as large and detailed as possible, then began the painstaking work of cleaning-up the images.

This has allowed The Fruit Pedallers to retain their existing logos, saving substantial money on redesign, and use them for various purposes around the shop, including:

  • Shopfront signage for the front windows
  • Shop signage which we designed to be laminated so that details can be changed easily
  • Shop ticketing, designed to be folded in half and laminated for ease of alteration

The manager, Sam McGinley, decided on an online store to sell products. We worked out that Zencart was the best option, and began customisation of the system for their purposes, including modifying CSS and HTML, internal configuration of the Zencart installation and creation of a custom banner for the store.
Not only that, we set up a photographic studio upstairs to photograph the products, and then to add them to the system for sale.
Finally, they decided they needed a newsletter system to communicate with their customers. We set-up a Mailman mailing list, configured so that all they have to do when they want a newsletter is to send an email message to a specific email address. This is then distributed to the mailing list.

We researched WordPress site designs that best fitted her vision (based on example sites she liked), customised the site with images and logos she supplied and set-up the page content, blog pages, calendar and social networking (Twitter, FaceBook and MySpace). She also got a tutorial on the WordPress system, and PDF Quick Start Guides to help her use the system
Her response was heartfelt:

Eloise is a jazz singer who sings the “golden” oldies to seniors in nursing homes.
As a first-stage in building her business, she asked for a retro-look website and provided a few example images to give an idea of what she wanted.
We helped her get a domain name for her business and hosted it for her, then started work on the wordpress theme which we’d found that best-suited her needs. The theme was extensively customised with additional images obtained from different sources and a calendar plugin added and configured. The finished result is one we’re all very proud of!
We also helped create a new print flyer to advertise her services, and helped design an image for her business card (which she had printed by budget card printers moocards).
